13:12 - Creative Director

13:12 is a new and innovative body of work from Lamine Sonko exploring the connection between West African music, cosmology and astrophysics, drawing links between what can be verified through sight and reason, and what we sense and feel.

Musically the project pushes boundaries to experiment with fusing the styles of West African, western classical and jazz, and includes kora, cello, sabar, piano and guitar.

Conceptually 13:12, explores mathematical and cosmological connections that show how music defines space and time. Mathematically 13:12 when decoded in various ways calculates 7 and in African cosmology is embedded in the basics of music with 7 notes, 7 scales, 7 drum tones. The music explores concepts of astrophysics and cosmology, drawing links to ancient polyrhythmic patterns in the physical word.

13:12 is in the initial stages of creative development, the first stage of this development will be presented at Melbourne Recital Centre on Wednesday 3rd April 2019.
